PART 2 — THE WOMAN WHO ARRIVED BEFORE MY WEDDING

I stared at the ring for what felt like forever.
Then I looked at him.
“Are you serious?”
He laughed.
“After everything you did to get into my house, you think I would kneel down for a joke?”
I screamed. 😭😂❤️
I jumped into his arms so quickly that he almost fell backward.
“Yes! Yes! Of course I’ll marry you!”
His mother started clapping while the chef wiped tears from her eyes.
And suddenly I remembered the first terrible plate of rice I’d cooked for him.
I whispered, “Imagine if you had fired me that day.”
He smiled.
“I almost did.”
I pulled away.
“What?!”
Everyone burst out laughing.
He held my face gently and said, “But something told me you were either the craziest woman I’d ever met… or the most genuine.”
“I can be both.”
“I know.” 😂
That night, I couldn’t sleep.

I kept turning on the bedside lamp just to look at the ring.
At 2:00 a.m., I called my sister.
She answered half asleep.
“Who died?”
“Nobody.”
“Then why are you calling me at two in the morning?”
I whispered, “Remember the handsome man from the supermarket?”
There was silence.
Then she sat up so quickly I heard something fall in the background.
“What happened?”
“He proposed.”
She screamed louder than I had. 😭😂
My mother didn’t believe me until I arrived home the following morning and showed her the ring.
She stared at it.
Then at me.
Then back at the ring.
Finally, she said, “So this madness actually worked?”
“Mummy!”
She hugged me tightly.

“My daughter, I’ve spent my whole life telling you not to chase men. Somehow you chased one all the way into his own house and came back with a husband.” 😂
But beneath all the laughter, something worried me.
His world was completely different from mine.
He attended events where people arrived in cars worth more than my family’s house.
He knew politicians, business owners, celebrities, and people whose names appeared on television.
And now I was supposed to become his wife.
The news of our engagement spread quickly.
At first, people thought I was another wealthy woman from an important family.
Then someone discovered the truth.
Within days, photographs of me were everywhere online.
“WHO IS THE MYSTERY WOMAN?”
“BILLIONAIRE BUSINESSMAN ENGAGED TO FORMER HOUSEHOLD WORKER.”
“FROM CHEF TO FUTURE WIFE?”
I read one headline and nearly choked.
“Former household worker?!” I shouted.
He looked over from his laptop.
“Well… technically—”
I threw a pillow at him.
“Don’t finish that sentence!” 😂
But some comments weren’t funny.

“She trapped him.”
“She wants his money.”
“She’s probably pregnant.”
“She doesn’t belong in his world.”
One woman wrote, “Give it six months. He’ll get tired of her.”
That one hurt.
I closed my phone.
He noticed immediately.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
He took the phone from my hand and read the comments.
Then he looked at me.
“Do you know why these people are talking?”
“Because they hate me?”
“No. Because they don’t know you.”
He held my hand.
“And they don’t have to.”
I tried to smile.
But I was beginning to understand something.

Falling in love with a wealthy, famous man was easy compared with surviving his world.
And the hardest person to deal with hadn’t even appeared yet.
His ex-girlfriend.
The woman he had left shortly before proposing to me.
Her name was Vanessa.
She was beautiful.
Not normal beautiful.
The kind of beautiful that made you suddenly become aware of every flaw you had. 😭
Tall.
Elegant.
Educated.
From a wealthy family.
She had known him for years.
And according to the internet, everyone had expected them to marry.
I asked him about her once.
“Did you love her?”
He remained quiet for a moment.

“I cared about her.”
“That wasn’t my question.”
He sighed.
“I thought I loved her.”
“And now?”
“Now I know the difference between being comfortable with someone and feeling at home with someone.”
I smiled.
“Which one am I?”
He looked at me.
“You’re the woman who broke into my life pretending to be an old chef.”
I slapped his arm.
He laughed and pulled me against him.
“You’re home.”
That answer was enough for me.
Or at least I thought it was.
Three weeks later, his mother organized an engagement dinner.
She invited relatives, family friends, and several business associates.
I was terrified.
Before we left our bedroom, I stood in front of the mirror staring at myself.
My dress probably cost more than everything I’d owned before meeting him.
Still, I felt like the same girl who had stood outside his gate begging security officers to let me inside.
He walked up behind me.
“Nervous?”
“Very.”
“Why?”
“Because everyone downstairs knows which fork belongs to which course.”
He laughed.
“I don’t even know why there are so many forks.”
“You’re rich. You’re supposed to know these things.”
“I pay people to know them.” 😂
I turned around.
“What if they don’t like me?”
He became serious.
“I’m not marrying them.”
Those five words gave me courage.
We walked downstairs together.
His mother immediately hugged me.
“You look beautiful.”
“Thank you, Mummy.”
She smiled because I had already started calling her that.
For the first hour, everything went surprisingly well.
People congratulated us.
Some asked how we’d met.
Whenever I told the supermarket-and-disguise story, they laughed until tears came.
Then, halfway through dinner, one of the security officers approached him.
“Sir, there’s someone at the gate asking to see you.”
“Who?”
The officer hesitated.
“Miss Vanessa.”
The room seemed to become quieter.
I looked around.
Several relatives exchanged glances.
His mother stopped smiling.
My fiancé’s expression hardened.
“Tell her this isn’t a good time.”
The security officer nodded.
But before he could leave, a woman’s voice came from behind him.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think this can wait.”
Everyone turned.
Vanessa was standing in the doorway.
She wore a fitted black dress and carried a small handbag.
She looked even more beautiful in person.
She walked into the room as though she still belonged there.
My fiancé stood.
“How did you get inside?”
“Your old security staff still remember me.”
He looked furious.
“You need to leave.”
“I will.”
Then she looked directly at me.
“But first, I think your fiancée deserves to know something.”
I stood slowly.
“Know what?”
My fiancé stepped between us.
“Vanessa, don’t do this.”
Her eyes never left mine.
“Oh, so she doesn’t know?”
My stomach tightened.
“Know what?”
He turned toward me.
“Don’t listen to her.”
But suddenly I needed to hear whatever she had come to say.
I stepped around him.
“Let her speak.”
Vanessa smiled.
Not kindly.
She opened her handbag.
“I’ve been wondering how long you were planning to keep pretending.”
My fiancé’s face changed.
For the first time since I’d known him, I saw something that frightened me.
Not anger.
Fear.
Vanessa reached inside her bag and removed a white envelope.
She placed it on the table in front of me.
His mother immediately stood.
“Vanessa, that’s enough.”
“No,” I said quietly.
Everyone looked at me.
I picked up the envelope.
“What is this?”
Vanessa folded her arms.
“Open it.”
My hands trembled as I pulled out several documents.
I didn’t understand them at first.
Then I saw his name.
And Vanessa’s.
And a date.
My eyes moved across the page.
Suddenly, my heart started pounding.
“What am I looking at?”
Nobody answered.
I turned toward the man I was supposed to marry.
His face had gone pale.
“Tell me.”
He took a step toward me.
“I can explain.”
Those four words terrified me more than anything Vanessa could have said.
I looked down again.
There were legal documents.
Property records.
Signatures.
And something else.
Something dated only two months before he’d met me.
I looked at Vanessa.
“What does this mean?”
Her smile disappeared.
For the first time, she looked genuinely hurt.
“It means the man you’re preparing to marry didn’t tell you the real reason he ended our relationship.”
My fiancé slammed his hand against the table.
“Enough!”
I jumped.
I’d never heard him shout like that.
Vanessa didn’t move.
Instead, she reached into her handbag again.
This time she pulled out a photograph.
She placed it beside the documents.
I looked down.
It showed Vanessa standing beside my fiancé.
His arm was around her.
Behind them was a beautiful house.
But it wasn’t the photograph that made my blood run cold.
It was what Vanessa said next.
“That house belongs to both of us.”
I stared at him.
He said nothing.
Vanessa continued.
“And that’s not the secret you should be worried about.”
My mouth went dry.
“What other secret?”
She looked at him.
“Should you tell her?”
Silence.
“Tell me what?” I demanded.
He closed his eyes for a second.
Vanessa reached into the envelope and pulled out one final document.
She slid it toward me.
I looked down.
There was a name at the top.
Then a date of birth.
Then my fiancé’s name beneath the words:
FATHER.
I stopped breathing.
I looked at him.
Then at Vanessa.
Then back at the document.
“You have a child?”
He stepped toward me.
“Please let me explain.”
My voice cracked.
“You have a CHILD?”
His mother covered her mouth.
Somebody at the table whispered something.
But Vanessa’s next words silenced everyone.
“He doesn’t just have a child.”
She looked directly into my eyes.
“I was pregnant when he left me.”
The paper slipped from my fingers.
My fiancé immediately said, “That’s not the whole truth.”
But I couldn’t hear him anymore.
All I could remember was him telling me that their relationship wasn’t built on real love.
All I could remember was him telling me I was home.
All I could remember was saying yes while believing there were no secrets between us.
I slowly removed my engagement ring.
His eyes widened.
“No. Don’t do that.”
I placed the ring on the table.
He reached for my hand.
I stepped backward.
“Don’t touch me.”
“Please.”
Vanessa watched silently.
I wiped the tears from my face.
Then I looked at the man I’d chased into his own home because I believed my heart had recognized him before my mind did.
“I loved you when I thought you were just an arrogant stranger at a supermarket.”
My voice shook.
“I loved you before I knew how much money you had.”
He stared at me helplessly.
“And I would have loved you even if you had ten children.”
His face crumpled.
“Then please listen—”
“But you didn’t trust me enough to tell me about one.”
I turned and walked toward the door.
He followed.
“Please don’t leave.”
I stopped.
For one foolish second, I wanted to turn around.
I wanted him to hold me.
I wanted everything to return to the way it had been an hour earlier.
But then Vanessa suddenly shouted from behind us.
“WAIT!”
I turned.
She was staring down at the document.
Her face had changed completely.
“What?” I asked.
She didn’t answer.
She picked up the paper and stared at it as if she’d seen something impossible.
My fiancé froze.
Vanessa looked at him.
Then at his mother.
And finally at me.
“Oh my God.”
“What is it?” I whispered.
She slowly raised her eyes.
“The child isn’t his.”
Nobody moved.
My fiancé’s mother whispered, “What did you just say?”
Vanessa’s hands began trembling.
“I said…the child isn’t his.”
My fiancé stared at her.
“What are you talking about?”
Vanessa shook her head.
“No. No, this can’t be happening.”
Then the front door suddenly opened.
One of the security officers rushed inside.
“Sir…”
Everyone turned.
The officer looked uncomfortable.
“There’s another man outside.”
My fiancé frowned.
“What man?”
The security officer swallowed.
“He says his name is Daniel.”
Vanessa dropped the document.
The blood disappeared from her face.
And before anyone could ask another question, she whispered the words that changed everything.
“He’s the real father.”
